Vintage Brush Development Co Metal Reel

Metal take up reel 7” by the brush development company. This reel was made sometime in the 1940’s-1950’s. It has the paper backed magnetic tape which was brought back from the Second World War. It was pioneered by the Germans and discovered by the us military at this time. This is the first magnetic tape that was used by our military as the technology had no yet reached American soil until that point.

This is a wonderful piece of Americana. Its a perfect example of the innovation of technology in sound recording media and an interesting piece of us military history.

The extremely short production of the paper backed tape along with its delicate nature is what makes this item such a rare find. Rarely will you see this type of tape or reel today.

The reel is in good overall condition. I have not attempted to play the media and do not know if there is a recording still on the tape. The reel is labeled so I assume there is something recorded on it.
