CL2INVREF
This auction is for an original 1832 Senate Rejection Booklet of Vice President Martin Van Buren Nomination. It contains 35 pages for pure politics in the early 1800's as the Senate and political powers teamed to stop Van Buren from becoming Jackson's 2nd term running mate rather than Calhoun. Some of the details within this RARE original issued Standard Office of New York printing are shown below. See pics for condition (few dog ear pages and a minor tear on the last page).
Calhoun simmered with resentment as the man he considered a "weasel" gained the upper hand in a rivalry that was becoming increasingly bitter. Van Buren, although every bit as ambitious as Calhoun, became increasingly discomfited at the widespread speculation that he, and not Calhoun, would succeed Jackson as president. Recoiling at the thought that his opponents might interpret his labors on Jackson's behalf as a crude form of electioneering, he informed the president in late March of 1831.
