Chad- Sao Rider

Approx. Measurements:
3.25 in. x 3 in.

The Sao are a civilization, now extinct, having occupied a geographical area extending between Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria between the 12th and 14th centuries. Oral chronicles still use this term to designate human groups that have established themselves in this region, south of Lake Chad. The heart of Sao territory is now inhabited by their direct and undisputed descendants, the Kotoko.

Studies on the subject show that all human or animal representations had a ritual use.
According to the beautiful book on Sao / Kotoko riders "Putchu Guinadji" the author Pierluigi Peroni explains that in the region of the Lake Chad basin, this type of rider, named Putchu Guinadji was used to fight manifestations of madness .
A figure wearing a turban is on his mount. He wears various accessories and is accompanied by another smaller character.

As this items is in vintage condition, it may show signs of age, use, and/or oxidation.
